WELLOW GOLF CLUB
LADIES NEWSLETTER 2017/18
To all Wellow Lady Members – I would like to wish you a very Happy New Year and let’s hope we have a wonderful summer so we can play lots of golf. The first couple of months since becoming Lady Captain have been very busy especially with all the festive events taking place. Thank you all for your help and support as it makes everything easier to organise and achieve a successful outcome.
Tel 01489 691155 or by email email@example.com
For further information please follow the link https://rainbowtrust.org.uk/ I am sure after reading the information you will understand why Martin and I decided to choose The Rainbow Trust as our charity for 2018. We will be organising fundraising events and there will be prizes to be won so lookout for information, support us and you could be a lucky winner. The Rainbow Trust will be holding an event at the club on Thursday 1st February between 7.00 and 9.00 to talk about the work they do and thank everyone for their support which makes it all possible. I will let you have further information when it is available.
Friendly matches start with a mixed match away at Test Valley on Sunday 8th April. This is a weekend fixture so is only open to 7 day members.
Ladies friendlies start with a home match against Cams Hall on Monday 16th April.
The sheets for all these events will be posted 6 weeks before the fixture. I will select the teams but a member of the team will captain the match, indicated by her name appearing in red on the team sheet. If problems arise concerning the fixture please contact your match captain. We have a lot of home fixtures this season so team selection for away matches will take into consideration the ladies who have supported the home fixtures.
Our competition season gets underway with the Easter Cup, stablefords played on each of the 3 days. You decide how many you play, pay in the pro shop on the day. Medal competitions start on Wednesday 4th April. Don’t forget the nine hole medals, first one on Monday 30th April. Sheets will be posted for the Summer Singles and Pairs in the locker room.
Spring Greensomes Wednesday 11th April is a drawn competition in pairs of a high and low handicap look out for sign-up sheet in the locker room.
Each year we enter external competitions for which we need ladies to represent the club. Sheets are up for you sign if you would like to be considered for these events which are detailed on the sheet. Stoneham Cup information will appear in the appropriate section and if you feel you would like to play please sign up. The maximum playing handicap is 24 which in some cases would mean you would lose shots, if this is not an issue please sign up.
FUNDRAISING FOR THE SECTION
Grand Hamper Raffle – this was a great success as we had hampers on display by 27th October giving time for everyone to get their tickets. We sold 1200 tickets which raised £1026.50 thank you for supporting this event
THE BOOK & PUZZLE SALE will be held on 21st February – donated books and puzzles can be left in the locker room. All of the items included in the sale are very good quality, puzzles will be marked if we are aware they are incomplete. The puzzles proved a very popular addition to this event so come along and support us.
Coffee Morning on September 12th we will be holding our annual Coffee Morning. This is proving to be a very popular event and any new ideas to help with the fundraising will be greatly appreciated. I know we have lots of skilled ladies out there. I look forward to hearing from you.
Various raffles are held during the year to raise money for our nominated charity. After Christmas you may have items you would like to donate, so please put them in the box in the locker room at any time. Thank you in advance!
The 9 Hole Fun Competitions will continue on Wednesdays, with the last one being played on Wednesday 21st March. Please arrive NO later than 8.30 am for a 9am Shotgun start, £2 to enter, everyone welcome. Prizes for all these competitions will be accumulated and you will receive vouchers for M&S to spend on goodies of your choice.
The Mixed Scrambles will be held monthly, on the last Friday of the month, the last one being played on 23rd March. Please see the mixed notice board or contact Gill Pletcher.
The Away Day will be at Ferndown Forest on 1st August. A course we can all play and you will be able to treat yourself to something from the fantastic ladies golf shop. The perfect combination for a day out with friends. It’s very easy to get there, come along and have some fun- there are also prizes to be won.
Competitions – A polite request to ask everyone to ensure payments for competitions are made before the closing date and also that you have the required number of qualifiers to enter. We don’t want you to miss out on taking part. Compliance with the rules is your responsibility; please ask if you are unsure.
Only one of our festive events was affected by the weather so we played skittles instead. Our Christmas Dinner was very well attended, we enjoyed a very good meal followed by light hearted games but there was still a competitive spirit. I am looking forward to my year as Lady Captain but on some occasions I will have to delegate as I also have work commitments to take into consideration. For the friendly matches I have had lots of offers from ladies willing to help which is all good practice for maybe a future Lady Captain. Competition prizes this year will be M&S vouchers; please don’t think that this is because I am not interested it is actually quite the opposite. I feel it is important to have prizes that you would like to win so unless I can find items to fit the criteria I would rather give vouchers which allow for personal choice. You will find the events that start the season on the final page. If at any time you need further information please feel free to contact me and hopefully I can answer your questions.
Friday Night Food and Fun Golf during the summer, a relaxed way to enjoy mixed competitions. Starting on the 18th May and finishing on the 31st August.
Golf is our hobby and has brought us altogether, we have a wonderful course to play, so relax, enjoy and let’s make 2018 a great year.
Note to current members.
Look out for Danny’s New Clinic Dates in the Changing room and the notice boards.
Also see the boards for all the forthcoming events i.e friendlies/mixed matches and other competitions
