LADIES SECTION – 2017 Invitational

WELLOW GOLF CLUB 2017 INVITATIONAL

Wednesday 12th of July 2017

This Month saw one of the biggest days in the Ladies’ calendar. The Ladies invitational is one of the highlights of the year as the Wellow Ladies invite friends from all over the country to showcase their course and have a day of golf, good food and fun.

The 32 pairs set off on a grey but pleasant Wednesday morning, but the day was to brighten up as the ladies hit the half way point.

After nine holes the groups were greeted by Captain Gill Whalvin and gang, who supplied light refreshments from the clubhouse patio.

The day was ended with the sunshine showing its face and a buffet served up by Mike and his catering team in the Nightingale Room before the presentation was to begin.

The eventual winners were Helen Parker and Chris Robinson.

A great day was then rounded off with a move away from golf. Many of the ladies remained in the clubhouse and delayed their trip home, only to witness the shock exit of Andy Murray from Wimbledon.

All in all everyone had a lovely day catching up with old friends and hopefully making new one as well.

OTHER RESULTS

The month of July has seen multiple competitions being strongly competed by all.

Sue Lanham, now playing off 11, followed her win in the Club Championship to win the stableford the following week .

New member Laurie Wallace won the EWGA Medal by 1 shot over Barbara Shier.

Hilary Lee and Margret Morgan also both enjoyed success in the Wednesday Ladies Stablefords.

LADIES SECTION – 2017 RALLY

WELLOW GOLF CLUB 2017 SPRING RALLY

The ladies season is off and running. On May 10th 2017, The section hosted the Ladies Spring Rally.

The day saw over 120 ladies making up 17 teams, arrived from all over Hampshire on a beautiful sunny day, a vast contrast to last year’s very wet and windy start to their day.

So with spirits high and the sun shining, a shotgun start was scheduled for 9am, with the Wellow Lady members making sure all the teams found their correct starting points.

The day was a great success.  The combination of a lovely presented course, pleasant weather and good food, meant that the reviews from the visiting ladies were very positive.

The club also managed to raise £365 for the Captains Charity , Meningitis Now .

CAPTAIN’S CHARITY 2015/2016

Last season’s Captains of Wellow Golf Club Jan Marsh and Kev Foot had a successful year raising funds the their chosen charity; The Wessex Neurological Department at Southampton General Hospital.

So on the 3rd December they presented a cheque for £2800 to Professor Rosaleen McCarthy from the Wessex Neurological Department.

The work this department does is clinical/research strands which then helps GP’s and Neurosurgeons/Neurologists in diagnosing and treatment of people suffering with brain disorders ie: dementia.    This was raised by various events including raffles, book sales, cake sales and competitions throughout their year’s captaincy.

Well done to everyone involved and thank you to all those that contributed throughout the year.
